The French Bulldog packs a lot of personality into their little bodies. This breed resembles an English Bulldog, but it comes in a miniature package and has large, erect ‘bat ears.’ While a Frenchie may have the tough look of a traditional bulldog, they are described by the AKC as bright, affectionate, and charming.

The French Bulldog’s calm demeanor, easy care, and small size make them the perfect dog city dwellers; however, they are just as at home in a condo, apartment, home, or farm. Frenchies can be the perfect pet – but there are a few things to know before you bring a French Bulldog puppy into your home.

French Bulldog Overview

Frenchies are a unique breed – they first became popular in France in the 19th century and today are the sixth most popular AKC registered dog breed in the United States. French Bulldogs are a small breed – on average they stand about 11 inches tall and weight between 16 and 28 pounds.

French Bulldogs also come in a variety of colors and patterns, including brindle, fawn, pied, white, and blue. With so many options, it is possible to find a Frenchie that catches your eye along with your heart. Our French Bulldog puppies have the classic Frenchie look: square head, heavy wrinkles above the short nose, a smooth coat, and a compact, muscular body.

French Bulldog Temperament & Personality

While the French Bulldog is a beautiful breed, their personality and temperament is where they really shine! Their charming personality and easy-going temperament make French Bulldogs the ideal companion dog. Frenchies are comical, friendly, and always entertaining!

While French Bulldogs are attentive and alert, they do not bark often – making them a great dog for apartment or condo dwellers. They do, however, enjoy a large amount of attention from their people. A Frenchie will often follow their family from room to room to ensure they don’t miss any chances for interaction.

French Bulldogs are naturally sociable and fit in easily with families, visitors, and other pets. However, just like with any breed, early training and socialization will ensure that your Frenchie is well behaved and obedient.

French Bulldog Health

While every breed has potential health issues, a responsible French Bulldog breeder will minimize those risks through testing and selective breeding processes. For Frenchies, there are a few unique health factors to consider:

  • The French Bulldogs physiology makes them poor swimmers and they should not be left unattended near pools, tubs, or bodies of water.
  • Their flat face limits a Frenchie’s breathing and makes dealing with extreme temperatures difficult. They should not be given extended exposure to heat, cold, or humid environments.
  • Some French Bulldogs struggle with hip and knee problems, skin allergies and disorders, or eye conditions. However, these issues are limited through DNA testing and responsible breeding programs.\

Overall, a well-cared for French Bulldog will live a long, happy, and healthy life. We pride ourselves on raising and breeding dogs that are healthy and ready to join your family for years to come!

French Bulldog Grooming

Providing for a French Bulldog’s grooming needs is relatively easy. While they do shed, their short coat makes grooming an easily manageable task. Weekly brushing will help to remove shed hair while also encouraging new hair growth and distributing helpful skin oils to the remaining fur.

Along with weekly brushing, a Frenchie will also need regular nail trimming and facial cleaning. The flat, folded face of the French Bulldog can get dirty and become a health problem if they are not kept clean and dry. Fortunately, their calm and friendly demeanor makes cleaning and grooming a French Bulldog an easy task.
